The person behind otterfund

otterfund asks you to connect your bank accounts, so you deserve to know who operates it and why it exists.

Ibrahim Al-Tawil
Founder

I built otterfund because budgeting apps kept asking me to do the budgeting. Assign every dollar, recategorize every coffee, feel behind by the second week. I wanted the opposite: pick a proven split like 50/30/20 once, and let the app do the math every month after that. Quiet nudges when something is worth a look, never a lecture when it is not.

otterfund is built in Canada, which is why the demo screens show RBC and TD accounts and a VEQT holding. It works with banks across Canada and the United States through Plaid, and you can always import a statement instead of connecting anything.

The free plan is a complete budget, not a trial. Paid plans exist so the product is funded by the people who use it, not by ads or by selling data. Payments run through Stripe, bank connections through Plaid, and your data is never sold.
